Evelyn Glennie and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Our optional half-term holiday homework was to write a letter to someone who inspires us, and invite them in to school. Mrs Swift also wrote some letters to people who she thought would inspire the children. Evelyn Glennie received a letter, but was too busy to visit Queen Edith - so we were invited to the Corn Exchange to see her rehearsing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The first children to hand their optional homework letters in, as well as our children who wear hearing aids, were invited to see Evelyn Glennie's rehearsal. The children learnt about how Evelyn takes her shoes off to feel the vibrations from the music that she cannot hear. They enjoyed listening to the orchestra and watching the conductor, as well as watching Evelyn play the xylophone incredibly quickly! Thank you to all children who wrote letters to people who inspire them. All the letters are now in the post and we await the replies.
